Four Aussie artists have been chosen for Travis Scott’s NBA 2K19 soundtrack

US hip-hop artist Travis Scott has just given a major shout out to a couple of Aussie artists, hand-picking their music to be featured on the soundtrack to the upcoming NBA 2K19 video game.

Travis Scott is undoubtedly having a very good week. Following the release of his latest album, Astroworld, earlier this month, the record managed to hit #1 on the ARIA charts over the weekend, before topping the Billboard charts soon after.

Following an eventful day yesterday which saw the artist handing out shares of $100k to his loyal Twitter followers, Travis Scott has now been announced as the executive producer for the NBA 2K19 video game soundtrack.

As Variety notes, Scott was announced as the soundtrack’s curator earlier today ahead of the game’s release next month. To promote the soundtrack, a video was released featuring the rapper being interviewed by the Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James – who also happens to be the cover star of the game’s ‘Anniversary Edition’.

“It’s an honour,” explained Travis Scott of being given the role of picking the game’s music. “It’s dope, I always like the chance to be able to curate music.”

When asked about what sort of ‘zone’ he was in while creating his latest album and picking these songs, Scott explained he was in the zone of “greatness”. “I kind of just wanted to curate the best music and give my city a sound,” he explained.

However, while the game’s soundtrack features a huge lineup of musical stars, including Fall Out Boy, Miguel, Bruno Mars, King Krule, Black Veil Brides, and of course, Travis Scott himself, the tunes also feature a bit of an Australian connection as well, with Ball Park Music, Wax Motif, Anna Lunoe and Alison Wonderland scoring spots on the soundtrack.

While Ball Park Music feature with their track ‘Hands Of My Body’, Alison Wonderland scores two appearances, with her 2018 track ‘Cry’, and her 2017 remix of Dua Lipa’s breakthrough hit ‘New Rules’.

While we’ve spoken before about how influential and enduring video game soundtracks can be, it remains to be seen just how important the soundtrack to NBA 2K19 will be to a generation of basketball-toting teens.

Who knows, maybe years down the line we’ll see countless twenty-somethings nostalgically reminiscing about their lazy days spent shooting hoops to the sound of Ball Park Music?
