Double platinum selling Aus export Sam Fischer releases clip with Demi Lovato
Double platinum selling Aussie export Sam Fischer has released the music video for his track ‘What Other People Say’ with US superstar Demi Lovato.
Following the premiere of the single last week, Fischer and Lovato have shared its emotive official video.
The video was directed by Dano Cerny, who has worked with artists like LSD (Labrinth, Sia & Diplo), The Chainsmokers and Halsey.
Within the video, Fischer and Lovato are seen travelling on a train and going about their own lives. Although they are strangers in the video, they are united by emotion, which highlights the song’s message of being alone together.
The song, which has already achieved 5 million worldwide streams, was written by Fischer about the feeling of being alone. Given its concept of taking two different perspectives and uniting them in one message of human emotion, Fischer always knew it would make for a perfect duet.
In a statement, Lovato explained that she wanted to join Fischer on the track due to its universal theme.
“This song is a reflection on what it’s like to lose who you truly are in an effort to please other people and society. It’s why I wanted to make this song with Sam – ultimately it’s about two humans coming together to connect and find solutions to their problems.”
Meanwhile, Fischer revealed that working with Lovato was an experience he’d “never forget”.
“It’s not every day you get to shoot a music video with a global superstar like Demi Lovato in the middle of a pandemic. Definitely an experience I’ll never forget. She’s incredible to work with, such a cool person and we’re both so proud of this music video,” he said.
“I’ve got to be honest, I can’t say there was a day when I was growing up back in Sydney that I ever pictured myself standing on top of a New York subway train in a sound studio in LA in front of a giant green screen next to Demi Lovato, but here we are and I’m so grateful for the experience and excited for everyone to see it. I miss Australia every day and I can’t wait to get back home and meet all of you.”
Fischer rose to stardom due to the colossal success of his 2020 track, ‘This City’. After exploding on TikTok, the track currently has over 350 million word streams, over 2 million worldwide sales and over 50 million video views.
On top of being certified platinum in the UK, it was certified Double-Platinum in Australia and was #1 on the ARIA Australian Artist Singles chart for five consecutive weeks. Give the track’s success, it’s no wonder that it was also nominated for Song of the Year at the 2020 ARIA Awards.
As if that wasn’t enough, Fischer also performed ‘This City’ in appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Late Show with James Corden and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Now based in LA, Fischer has also worked with the likes of Ciara, Lennon Stella, Louis Tomlinson, Elle King, Jessie J and more.
It seems Fischer could now be in for an even bigger year, as he has been chosen as YouTube’s first ‘Artist on the Rise’ for 2021. It’s safe to say we should all watch this space to see what he does next.
