ASM Global APAC announces Asian headquarters in Singapore

ASM Global, the venue and event management giant, is expanding its activities in Asia Pacific with the launch of regional headquarters in Singapore.

Helming ASM Global Singapore is a twin-track leadership team of Executive Vice President Operations Paul Sergeant and Executive Vice President of venue development Ed Sanderson.

U.K.-born, Melbourne-based Sergeant boasts a 30-year career in managing venues on both hemispheres, earning kudos as in 2007 as Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to the events industry.

He returned to ASM Global APAC (then known as AEG Ogden) in 2019, for a third stint with the group.

Meanwhile, Sanderson brings to the role 20 years’ commercial and operational experience in venues and facilities across Asia, most recently with Populous, where he served as business advisory and project development officer.

Singapore is considered one of the world’s most affluent markets, and, with its growing appetite for live music, an ideal launch pad into Asia.

Prior to the pandemic, a string of companies and entrepreneurs made investments in the city-state.

Former Chugg Entertainment CEO Matthew Lazarus-Hall relocated to Singapore to join AEG Presents in a pan-Asian executive role, U2’s 2019 Joshua Tree Tour routed into Singapore for the first time, and former Harvest Festival promotor Declan Forde launched the Neon Lights fest brand in Singapore.

Under Brisbane-based Chairman and CEO Harvey Lister, ASM Global APAC has moved forward with a string of regional projects, including the under-construction Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong; the recently unveiled Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center.

Today, the company confirms six future arenas will be managed by ASM Global in the region.

“This is an exciting development and reinforcement of the importance of this region to our organization and the expansion of our regionally based business activities, Lister comments.

“Having our ASM Global APAC industry professionals like Paul and Ed on the ground will bring a wealth of local knowledge and experience to our operations.”

Based in Los Angeles, ASM Global was formed in 2019 by the merger of AEG Facilities and SMG, creating a mega-company operating more than 300 venues around the globe, including stadiums, arenas, and convention centres.

The regional, Queensland-based company is contracted to venues in Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Newcastle, Sydney, Bahrain (opening in
2022), Christchurch and Jeddah (under development), Kuala Lumpur, Shenzhen and more.
