Amy Shark is the seventh Aussie to top the ARIA Albums Chart in 2018

Amy Shark walked onto the main stage at Splendour In The Grass with a notable smile on Saturday, as her debut album Love Monster hit #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart.

“I never dreamed I’d even release my debut album let alone see it come in at #1…,” said Amy.

“It’s been such a long journey and to hear this incredible news right before I play the main stage at Splendour In The Grass, makes this a moment I’ll never forget.”

Amy’s manager and mentor Jaddan Comerford called the result “extraordinary”.

Love Monster is the seventh #1 album from an Australian artist to appear on the chart this year, joining 5 Seconds Of Summer, Sheppard, Parkway Drive, Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu, Kylie Minogue and Vance Joy.

There are other notable debuts on the ARIA Albums Chart this week too. The Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again soundtrack (#4), Australian country star Adam Brand with Milestones…20 Years (#6) and Canada’s The Babe Rainbow with Double Rainbow (#18).

But it’s fair to say it’s officially Shark week. If current single ‘I Said Hi’ was an ode aimed at the labels who turned the singer away, this week’s debut validates Amy’s presence as one of Australia’s best new talents.

And the powerhouse team behind Amy Inc – Sony Music Australia, Wonderlick Entertainment and UNIFIED Music Group – will inevitably be celebrating the victory at SITG, where Amy covered the Wheatus hit ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ during her incredible live set.

Love Monster also reached Top 10 in the US, Canada, Sweden, Argentina, Singapore and a further 25 territories. ‘I Said Hi’ has spent 14 weeks on the TMN Hot 100 and is currently #3.

Mostly written by Amy and produced by Dann Hume, Amy collaborated with a number of industry favourites on Love Monster, including Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 on ‘Psycho’, Joel Little on ‘Never Coming Back’ and Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff on ‘All Loved Up’.
