Festival Update: Homegrown returns to Sunshine Coast; Blues On Broadbeach breaks records

Homegrown Music Festival returns to the Sunshine Coast on July 29, now run by Sustainable Partnership Australia (SPA). It was operated for 12 years by Lifeline and Uniting Care Communities until 2012 when it lost its funding. SPA is running a crowd sourcing campaign until July 26 to raise $8000. The top end package offers stage naming rights.

In other festival news, Sydney’s Come Together festival is the latest hip hop event to hit the chopping block. Set to take place at Luna Park in two weeks time with Drapht, Illy, The Herd and Spit Syndicate, festival organisers cited low ticket sales as the reason for the axing.

The total attendance for the four-day event Blues On Broadbeach is yet to be totaled, but organisers are positive that it will break all past records, including last year’s 96,000 mark.

The 12th annual Bass In The Grass drew 6600 to Darwin’s George Brown Botanic Gardens for a 13-act bill headed by The Living End and The Amity Affliction.

Celebrate WA and West Australian Music (WAM) present the third State of the Art festival at Perth Cultural Centre this Saturday. 30 WA acts including Drapht, Eskimo Joe and San Cisco will play as part of WA Day celebrations.

Adelaide’s Spin Off festival has been shelved for 2014. It operated as a sister event to Byron Bay’s Splendour In The Grass, bringing some of its acts to South Australia.
