Troy Carter to leave Spotify in September

Troy Carter will leave his role as global head of creator services at Spotify, effective in September.

He took on the job in June 2016 and will remain an adviser to the streaming service.

It is not known if this was the result of Spotify’s brief banning of various artists from its playlists over offensive content and behaviour – something which Carter, who has close ties to the artistic community, was said to have been upset about.

He is the CEO and founder of Atom Factory, which managed Lady Gaga, John Legend, Lindsey Stirling and Meghan Trainor.

He is also co-founder and managing partner of Cross Culture Ventures and entertainment advisor to the estate of Prince.

Spotify’s CEO Daniel Ek said in a statement, “Troy has been instrumental in changing that perception and his efforts to establish true partnerships across the industry will be felt for years to come.

“He’s built a very capable, global team that embodies an artist-first approach and this philosophy has been adopted across Spotify.

“We are in an excellent position to build on the momentum we’ve established well into the future.”

Carter said in his statement: “I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved but with so much accomplished, it was the right time to move out of the day-to-day into an advisory role.

“The knowledge, relationships and personal experiences will remain with me and I know that this talented team is committed to continuing this important work.”

After his departure, Spotify’s head of shows and editorial, Nick Holmste, will take on Carter’s role.

Both their teams will be combined.
