29 acts added to Falls Festival east coast line-up

PRESS RELEASE:

The Falls Music & Arts Festival is getting set to deliver Australia’s biggest New Year’s Eve party this summer! All East Coast shows will be ringing in 2017 atop stunning scenic locations, from crystal coastal stretches – to ancient rainforests – to super lush tropical oasis plains; they have you covered.

With Lorne and Byron Bay selling out instantly, your closest Falls destination is Marion Bay Tasmania (or Falls Downtown Fremantle, for our West Coast friends). Time to grab a ticket, rally your travel buddies and book in a holiday! Fly into Tassie or catch the Spirit; just don’t swim, it’s really hard.

Joining the already massive national line-up with the likes of Childish Gambino, London Grammar, The Avalanches, Violent Soho, Matt Corby, Alison Wonderland and heaps more are 29 fresh names, playing across each different East Coast venue. Take a look at who will be hitting a stage near you…

Angus Stone‘s new musical projectDope Lemonhas allowed him tohit new heights in 2016, with adebut albumHoney Bonesalready releasedoff the back of the massive first single‘Uptown Folk’. What started as a side project with mates while jamming on sofas littered throughout the paddocks of his Byron Bay cattle farm has turned into a dream-pop chilled album of perfection. Honey Bones, made with good vibes only…Perfect for Falls.

NORTHEAST PARTY HOUSE

They are the best of times. They are the worst of times. We all love a party, but they don’t always go the way we’d like them to. Northeast Party House knows this well, as do many of the characters inhabiting their hotly anticipated new release Dare, the follow-up album to 2014’s Any Given Weekend. Hailing from Melbourne, Northeast Party House started life playing warehouse parties and local venues, quickly gaining momentum and a reputation for a high energy, dance inducing live shows! Can’t wait to see them at Falls.

HAELOS

Every generation has their own version of the blues, music that captures a sense of melancholia and provides a sonic reflecting pool for young lovers, old souls, and the eternally heartbroken. For their darkly shaded and radiant debut albumFull Circle,HAELOS have found their blues where others go to find pure, uncut joy: the dancefloor.The London trio’s version of a night out is a million miles away from mirror balls and sweaty bodies, their rippling electronic pop conjuring the exhilarating privacy of a cavernous club’s dark pockets and the introspective comedowns that accompany rainy 5 a.m.cab rides. “It’s the music you put on after the club,” Lotti Benardout,who shares vocal duties with her other bandmates,states.“You can still feel that energy and euphoria, but it might bring you back to reflect on certain moments or memories.”

KINGSWOOD

The Melbourne rockers have been recording the follow-up to 2014’s Microscopic Warsin Nashville, with producer Edward Spear at the legendary Sound Emporium studio (which names everyone fromAlabama Shakesto Pharrellas clients).’Creepin’ is the first track from those sessions, a smoky bait-and-switch that draws you in with moody guitar and vocalist Fergus Linacre’s soulful growl before broadsiding you with dirty, leather-scuffing riffage, led be guitarist Alex Laska.Be among the first to hear their new material live!

HOCKEY DAD

When you’re young, summers tend to feel endless and carefree. For many, memories of this age — when you have the freedom to attack a day with reckless abandon — still conjure a golden-hour glow in our minds. For Hockey Dad, that vibrant spirit and defiant charm fuels its debut album,Boronia. Messy and fun, the Australian duo’s pop-punk bursts with chunky guitars and big riffs as they collide with yowling vocals and firecracker drumming. It’s the perfect sun-streaked soundtrack for skinned-knee skate videos and beach bonfires at dusk; for staying out late and sleeping in later, only to do it all over again the next day.

MOONBASE COMMANDER

Arising from the darker and grimier side of the Sydney bass scene, Moonbase Commander is a producer known for his distinct sound that stands between the worlds of hip-hop, juke and beats. His sets are unrelenting displays of energetic movement, light and sound – a sight that blends effortlessly with his futuristic swag. Last year saw MBC getting mad props from Pitchfork after dropping a flawless collab with New Yorker Cakes Da Killa on ‘Serve It Up’, which features on his Southpaw EP, along side his solo banger ‘Southpaw’. MBC is currently working away on a bunch of new material, which he’ll hopefully be dropping over New Year’s!

HEIN COOPER

Fresh off touring the world and playing The Great Escape Festival in the UK, Cooper has just released his stunning debut album The Art of Escape.The album has been received with great acclaim worldwide and the young Sydney-sider has been dubbed by Richard Kingsmill as a ‘rising folk star worth checking out’.

KLP

Operating under the monikerKLP, Sydney-based artistKristy Lee Petersis a synonym with a bloody good time!KLPis one of the country’s shiniest (and not to mention hardworking) producer, songwriter, vocalist, DJ and radio host. Hostingtriple j’s House Partyeach Saturday and amassing a huge14 millionplays for her solo work on Soundcloud, including tracks ‘Medicine’, ‘Recover’ and her latest‘Ember’.

THE MIDDLE KIDS

Here’s a band clearly with an abundance of ideas, the bravery to step beyond standard structures and the creative ability to interweave a pathway through. They’re an Aussie trio made up of Hannah and Harry (two classically trained musicians) and Tim. Middle Kids are fresh blood in the indie-pop world: their debut EP was recorded in their house and it’s due out soon, with singles ‘Your Love’ and ‘Edge of Town’ already getting music lovers buzzing with anticipation.

JUST A GENT

Over the past few years, Australian producer – charmingly dubbedJust A Gent, has taken over the electronic music scene, dominating radio and amassing a huge online following with his impressive catalogue of original works and remixes.Working with artists such asPeking Duk ft. SAFIA, Alison Wonderland, Wolfgang Gartner, ZHU, Aston Shuffle, American Authorsand many more. His music has received support from the largest names in electronic dance music includingSkrillex, Diplo, Dillon Francis, What So Notand more, whilst having received airplay on international stations BBC’s 1Xtra, US College Radio andPete Tong’sEvolution Radio. In 2014 Just A Gent wontriple j unearthed Listen Outcompetition at just 16 years of age. 2016 continues to be the year of The Gent with his new music on the horizon and an EP in mid 2016, Just A Gent is set to hypnotise, taking his melodic love trap all over the world.

DENA AMY

Dena Amy is a Sydney-based DJ with a penchant for smooth house music and a profile growing by the day. Dropped a new mixes all the time, her latest is Wait For You. Dena’s voice is the perfect combination of smoky and sultry, and when you’re gifted an acapella like that you best be sure to use it – especially if you’re producing over your own track! Her production is tight with the funky kind of bass lines you expect to hear in a gritty club while the bright synths in the background provide an excellent contrast showcasing Dena’s production chops.

SPIT SYNDICATE

Sydney duo Spit Syndicate are one of Australia’s most forward-thinking hip-hop acts. After meeting in high school, Nick Lupi and Jimmy Nice decided to form a rap group, quickly building a reputation around Sydney as ones to watch. Their third album, 2013’s acclaimed Sunday Gentlemen, debuted at no. 15 on the Aria Charts. As part of collective One Day, alongside high-school friends Horrorshow, Joyride and Jackie Onassis, they released one of 2014’s biggest albums Mainline, which debuted at no. 2 on the Aria Charts and featured the singles ‘Love Me Less’, ‘Leave Your Windows Open’ and ‘SDRO’. Working on a new album now, to tie their fans over, the duo recently released the ‘Best Intentions: Part Two’ EP, the second instalment in a series of free releases which have quickly gained cult status amongst the groups fanbase.

KILTER

Taking your imagination to the heart of what a tropical Ibiza club experience might be like, Sydney-based electronic producerKilter is an expertly produced affair, bubbling with tribal-style beats that are injected with an infectious, summery vibes. Having amassed 33 million streams online, multiple visits to the Top of Hype Machine charts and triumphed in the triple j Like A Version studio, he is a star on the continual rise.

GENERIK

He claims to be the first DJ to have played on the Moon. Whether that’s true or not (we can’t exactly prove that he hasn’t right?), Generik has certainly clocked up enough frequent flyer points to earn himself a round trip to space by now. As a world renowned DJ, Generik has rubbed shoulders with A-list DJ’s and B-grade celebrities the world over – yet he retains his uniquely Australian sensibilities (he hails from Melbourne) in his sense of humour, obsessive work ethic and desire to just get the grows moving at any cost with his mix of techno, house, club and dance tunes. Don’t miss your chance to get Generik at this year’s festival!

BARO

Hailing form Melbourne, this youngster has stamped his trademark in Australian Hip Hop. Baro is creating some of the smoothest sounds, having spent most of his career sneaking into venues (past bouncers) to play his own gigs or support the likes of Allday, Remi and Illy. Drawn from an Odd Future, Chance the Rapper, MF Doom kind of world, Baro’s tunes also hark back to the sound of A Tribe Called Quest – they sound like modern classics.

FEKI

Over little more than a year, Henry ‘Feki’ has been turning plenty of heads with his electronic productions. Feki is cooler than cool. He has teamed up with LA Based collective, Team Supreme while also having an online presence that even Kim K would be enviously of. It nears certainty that the future has huge things in store for this young gun.

OLYMPIA

Olympia is the creative project of Melbourne based singer songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Olivia Bartley, who drives a mix of widescreen sweep and rich harmonies. Her voice soars with humble magnificence over the sparse yet pronounced playing of guitars, violins, horns, keys, and drums. This is going to be one memorising performance!

JACK RIVER

Jack River is the alias of Holly Rankin who hails from Forster on the NSW Mid North Coast. Rankin can thank her friends as the name originates from a teenage “pirate name”. Jack River has adopted a burgeoning Sydney scene that includes The Preachers, Johnny Took (DMA’s), and Spookyland – this can only mean big things to come.

MALLRAT

Introducing 17-year old powerhouse Mallrat, the self-professed ‘Hannah Montana of the rap game’. Gearing towards total alt-scene domination comes the elusive teen slaying rap/pop/electronic fusion with her debut offering ‘Suicide Blonde’. At just 16, the young artist has already sat pretty in the triple j Unearthed High charts, added to rotation across community radio as well as being picked up by international tastemakers as a “one to watch”.

KARI FAUX

Setting ripples through the southern rap scene before hitting up LA, Kari Faux is rap’s girl next door. “I’m just normal,” says the 23-year-old. “There’s a male rapper for every kind of dude that exists. There’s not a female artist every woman can relate to.” On her debut album, Lost En Los Angeles, the rock-born rapper proves she may be just the artist to fill that void.

DARREN MIDDLETON

Best known from his previous life as a guitarist and songwriter for much-loved Australian band Powderfinger who played their last show in late 2010. Since then, Darren has found himself spreading his musical wings releasing his much acclaimed solo album Translations, a self-confessed “heart on sleeve” record featuring guest vocals from Bernard Fanning, Clare Bowditch, Nic Cester and Paul Dempsey.

GRETTA RAY

17-year-old Melbourne based Gretta Ray is one to watch. Immersed in music from early childhood, Gretta grew up in the company of successful Melbourne musicians. Gretta’s stylistic comparisons are regularly likened to her influences Laura Marling, James Taylor and local musicians Ainslie Wills and Thelma Plum. Gretta Ray’s intriguing way of combining lyrical complexities that express personal feelings of love and heartache, with tongue-in-cheek facetious anecdotes, is only part of what makes this young talent so unique.

BAYTEK

Born into the Unknown Records family in 2013, Baytek’s career has since taken major turns following some huge releases and remixes, all in the midst of numerous national tours. His heavy signature sound became infectious, and continues to spread like plague throughout clubs and playlists here at home and abroad. Now the cement has set, and Baytek is acclaimed as one of Australia’s most sought after acts. And as the young guns plot continues to thicken, he stares hungrily and humbly down the barrel of his biggest year yet.

WILLOW BEATS

In the ever-evolving electronic music industry, Willow Beats, the Melbourne-based uncle-niece partnership of Narayana Johnson and Kalyani Mumtaz have commanded a heap of attention with their distinctive, other-worldly tunes. Mysterious mystics bursting with dreamy beats, singer Kalyani’s heavenly siren call dialogues with Narayana’s dark/light electronica dichotomies to stunning result. With their long hair, bare feet, wild dance moves, exotic get-ups and energetic live presence; Willow Beats have quickly became darlings of the live circuit.

SAHARA BECK

Raised in the laid back surrounds of the Sunshine Coast Sahara has always had a decidedly single minded focus. At 14 she wrote and recorded her debut album. There are no big name producers and over the top stylists here, Sahara is an independent artist in the truest sense of the word. Gone is the tentativeness of youth – replaced by a passion that captures her love of foot to the floor jazz and rock, as much as melt your heart tender moments.

BEL

Creating alternative electronic pop with emotive lyrics that pierce the soul, Melbourne’s 20-year-old singer- songwriter, Bel, is a creative force to be reckoned with. Her ethereal vocals combined with authentic, emotionally charged lyrics, unite us in our experience of the human condition. Her music is both thought provoking and deeply moving. She exposes us to the raw essence of herself, creating a mesmerising connection with the listener. Bel is a creative in the true sense of the word.

GOOD BOY

Good Boy are three childhood friends who grew up together in the regional Queensland town of Bundaberg, before relocating to Brisbane and deciding to form a band on a whim. Since then Good Boy has quickly gained a reputation for their authentic and unpretentious approach to music and a real knack for writing songs that capture the essence of being in your early 20’s whilst growing up in modern Australia. It’s been a hell of a year for Good Boy.

I OH YOU DJs

It all started way back in 2009. Four Melbourne housemates throw a big house party to raise funds for an overdue gas bill; the bash is a huge hit with punters (and local police); the housemates realize that throwing parties is probably the most fun way to pay for utilities. Keeping the gas on since 09, I Oh You DJ’s are bringing the party this year!
