Red Bull Sound Select announces October event

September’s instalment of Red Bull Sound Select saw another heaving crowd at Plan B small club. LANEWAY’s Travis Banko hit the mark once again with the combination of eclectic musicians Klue and Broadway Sounds topped off with Donny Bennet sleazy 80’s inspired synth pop.

Jack Froggatt, Lachlan Bostock and Alex Nicholls are Mansionair. Drawing comparisons to the likes of Alt-J, James Blake and The Xx, Mansionair craft an expansive, unique, genre-bending sound held together by singer Jack Froggatt’s haunting falsetto. Their first single, ‘Hold Me Down’, has amassed a phenomenal 20 million+ views on YouTube, 6 million+ plays on Spotify and peaked at #1 on Hype Machine upon release. Over the last year, the boys have toured with bands such as Florence and the Machine, Foals, Alt-J and also completed a USA/UK/Europe tour with Scottish act Chrvches late last year.

Warming up the stage for Mansionair will be Red Bull Sound Select artist GL. Layering sultry disco vocals over intricately textured production, Ella Thompson & Graeme Pogson, aka GL, have cultivated their own evocative sound that is constantly reaching for the cosmos. Stand out tracks ‘Won’t You See’ & ‘What Happened To Us?’ enjoyed consistent airtime on triple j & FBi, while remixes from Detroit don Terrence Parker and Berlin tastemaker Gerd Janson were regularly spun on international stations like BBC Radio 1 & Rinse FM. In 2016, GL delivers debut album ‘Touch’ which label Plastic World defines as “an exhilarating master class in visceral electro boogie” with singles ‘Number One’ and ‘Grip’ in high rotation across the Sydney soundscape. With a US tour on the horizon, GL’s starry-eyed vision is set to become a reality.

Kick- starting the vibes will be Red Bull Sound Select artist ALTA. I OH YOU’s finger remains firmly on Australia’s musical pulse with Melbourne duo Alta. Alta’s catchy and atmospheric tracks have landed the producer/ signer partnership on stages across the globe. To celebrate the addition of ALTA to the Sound Select family, Red Bull Music is exclusively premiering their new track ‘Unbeleivable’, a delicate new sonic trip taken from their upcoming EP scheduled for release in November through Soothsayer.

Following on from the success of ALTA’s 2015 Awake For Days EP, which landed the Melbourne duo a number 5 spot on the overall hype machine charts and accumulated over one million plays on Soundcloud and Spotify, the intricate and sophisticated sounds of ‘Unbelievable’ are a clear outline of what fans can hope to expect hear from this powerhouse duo on the upcoming EP.
