Nominations Open for 2023 Music Victoria Awards
Entries are now open for the 2023 Music Victoria Awards.
The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, October 31st, in The Edge at Melbourne’s Fed Square, with the action set to be streamed to the big screen in the main square.
For the first time ever, entrants do not need to be Music Victoria members, meaning all members of the Victorian music industry are able to put themselves forward for consideration. That’s why Music Victoria is expecting a significant increase in entries from last year, which saw the largest number of entries and votes received in the awards’ history.
“We’ve been working hard behind the scenes and are so excited to kick off the 2023 Music Victoria Awards journey,” says Music Victoria CEO Simone Schinkel. “Now in its 18th year, the Awards are a staple date on the music industry calendar, celebrating the year that was and the valuable contribution made by the Victorian music community.
“The recent Victorian Live Music Census uncovered that Victoria has over 1,000 live music venues, and VMDO research found at least 14,000 active releasing musicians – in 2023 we look forward to opening entries up to all of them! With all financial barriers to participation now removed, we hope to create greater accessibility and inclusion across the Victorian music industry, and a true snapshot into the great music scene we have in this state.”
Baker Boy was the big winner at last year’s Music Victoria Awards. The singer-songwriter walked away with three awards, including the prestigious Best Album award for his acclaimed album Gela. It brought Baker Boy’s total tally of awards to an impressive eight. For the first time in Music Victoria Awards history in 2022, the brand-new Best DJ award was shared between Jennifer Loveless and MzRizk.
Entries for this year’s awards are now open until Friday, July 21st. You can nominate yourself and your favourite artists, venues, and festivals via the awards’ official website.
