2019 APRA Music Awards: Sarah Aarons, Amy Shark & Baker Boy lead nominations
Three of the fastest moving Australian songwriters – Sarah Aarons, Amy Shark and Baker Boy – lead the nominations for the 2019 APRA Music Awards.
Aarons was particularly is a highlight of the nominations list announced this morning.
She’s leapt from Breakthrough Artist in 2018 to a contender for Songwriter of the Year.
She leads with four nominations following her success as a co-writer on Zedd’s worldwide hit ‘Stay’ and the Grammy-nominated ‘The Middle’ as well as collaborations with Peking Duk and The Rubens.
In a further case of fast movers, global hitmakers Dean Lewis and Tash Sultana join Baker Boy, G Flip and Jack Rivers as Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year.
The winner for this category will be determined by the APRA board of directors.
First time nominees include Angie McMahon and Mojo Juju, both of whom have also created waves in the past 12 months.
Two more awards, decided by the APRA board will be announced at the ceremony – Songwriter of the Year and the Overseas Recognition Award.
The Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music, Most Played Australian Work Overseas and Licensee of the Year will also be presented at the awards on Tuesday April 30 at the Melbourne Town Hall.
The ceremony is hosted by Brian Nankervis and with Kate Miller-Heidke as musical director.
