Hillsong earn Australia a gong at the 2018 Grammy Awards

The Australian flag is flying at the Grammy Awards today, thanks to Hillsong Worship. The songwriting pair, consisting of New Zealander BrookeLigertwood and Aussie Ben Fielding, took out the best contemporary Christian music performance/song category for ’What A Beautiful Name’, the first single off 2016 album Let There Be Light.

Hillsong Young & Free were nominated at last year’s Grammys for their album Youth Revival, however this year marks the first win for the church.

Unfortunately,APRA AMCOS ambassadorSarah Aarons(co-wroteZedd&Alessia Cara’s track ’Stay’), SiaandNick Cave & the Bad Seedsall lucked out in their categories, along with TMN Tinnies nominee Eric J Dubowsky (who attendedfor his work on ODESZA’s album).

There are still plenty of big category winners to be announced, including Album of the Year category – which thanks to online voting, marks the first time since 1999 that a white male artist hasn’t been in the running for the award. Lorde is nominated alongside Bruno Mars, JAY-Z,Kendrick Lamar and Childish Gambino.

JAY-Zled the pack with eight nominations (including album of the year, record of the year, song of the year and best rap album), closely followed by fellow rapperKendrick Lamarwith seven nods.SZAis the most nominated woman artistin 2018, clocking up five nominations in total.
